For many of us, white bread and margarine have been staples of our breakfast routine for years. We packed sandwiches made with these ingredients in our school lunches, and some of us may still rely on them today.
According to Dr. Kasenene, Medical Doctor – Nutrition, Lifestyle & Functional Medicine, consuming white bread, margarine, and sugar can have detrimental effects on our health. In fact, he refers to them as toxic slow poison.
The health expert, warns that white bread is highly processed and lacks the essential nutrients our bodies need. It is made from refined wheat flour, which has been stripped of its fiber and nutrients during the manufacturing process, meaning that consuming white bread provides little nutritional value and can lead to spikes in blood sugar levels.
“While margarine was once touted as a healthier alternative to butter, it is now widely recognized as a highly processed and unhealthy product. Most margarines contain trans fats, which are known to increase the risk of heart disease, raise bad cholesterol levels, and lower good cholesterol levels,” he explained.

He further narrateed that excessive sugar consumption has been linked to numerous health issues, including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and tooth decay. “Consuming sugary foods and beverages can lead to weight gain, energy crashes, and an increased risk of chronic diseases.”
“To prioritize our health and well-being, individuals should completely avoid white bread, margarine, and excessive sugar consumption, but instead opt for whole grain bread, which is rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Butter in moderation, can be a better choice than margarine, as it is a natural product without the harmful trans fats found in many margarines,” he added.
