Online celebrity Jackline Watahi from Kenya, commonly known as “Chapati Mistress,” attributes the growth of her profitable company to social media. The chapati-making expert uploaded pictures of her chapatis on Twitter on a casual day, and when she returned from her regular duties she found that she had received multiple orders from online clients.
She says the journey started after seven years of marriage and ended up separating with her husband, adding that it was a way of supporting her two children who were 5years and 2year by that time, as well as herself.
“I had to think of something because I had left my marriage and I was there with the children. I wanted to cook chapati, sell in small quantities and see how I can sustain my children, but God came through for me a few hours into the business. I was already getting a number of orders,” she said.
She further explained that although she cooks chapati frequently for her now successful business, it is actually not her favorite food, adding that she has improved with time and that she used to exclusively make white chapatis, but now she makes a variety for her wide range of customers.
