Kenya’s Sports Dispute Tribunal’s ruling has given all teams in Division Two Western zone B, including those that were relegated, a chance to play in the same division this season. This decision has caused uproar among teams in the zone.
Chewoyet FC and several other clubs had petitioned against the caretaker committee for relegating nine clubs. The ruling by the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) stated that no club should be relegated and the league would be expanded to 20 league clubs from the earlier 18.
This, the ruling says, is to accommodate the regional league which is just about to be concluded and there ought to be teams promoted to the 4th tier from the regional league.
Also the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) ruled that the two top teams from zone A and zone B would proceed to the promotion play off as at the time the league had stopped, putting in mind that the league had not been completed and the 1st leg of fixtures had not been completed also.
Eldowas FC and De La Shark FC from Uasin Gishu County, being the best teams at the end of the 1st leg from zone B, will have an opportunity of representing Western zone B in the play-offs after the caretaker committee normalized the league standings.
The move has brought a lot of confusion in the Western zone as many clubs alleged that the move was not free and fair. The Western zone A will be represented in the play-off by Compel Fc from Bungoma County and Sigalagala Polytechnic FC from Kakamega County.
The playoffs are set to take place in Marakwet County on a date to be communicated later. The two top clubs in the play-offs will get the opportunity to represent the zone in the division one league in the upcoming season.
The Western zone Division Two is zoned into two; western zone A and Western zone B. Zone A recently concluded their league while in zone B the league was never concluded after the league was stopped in mid-July after massive relegation of clubs from the league.
