It’s never too late to chase your aspirations, as Dr. Carl Allamby, an emergency care specialist for Cleveland Clinic, demonstrates. After quitting his job in the auto business at the age of 51 to pursue a career in emergency medicine, he recounts his motivational story.

According to Cleveland Clinic, he worked as a mechanic and a company owner before becoming a doctor. But after returning to school to complete his business degree at the age of 38, he felt it was time to change directions.
“I was required to take a biology course as part of that educational attempt, and that reminded me a lot of my childhood dreams of becoming a doctor,” he said.
From that point on, his dream was rekindled, and he started studying pre-medicine, a journey that took him an extra year because he had to work, support his family, and attend to the classes at the same time and finally became a doctor in 2019 after five years of study.
“With the help of my wife, who has been by my side the entire time, I graduated older in my graduating class. The nicest thing I have accomplished in life,” he said, “is being able to make this transition later in life and to be able to live out this dream I had as a child. It was just a wonderful, phenomenal day.”

He treats patients in the emergency room and thinks his experience in various industries has improved his ability to interact with clients.
Anything is possible if you only believe, he said, adding that if someone believes in themselves, they will be amazed by what they can do in life.
