Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s Moyale political rally was briefly interrupted after supporters of different political groups clashed.
The fracas began when CS Ukur Yatani was addressing the gathering. Stones were pelted at the podium, forcing the bodyguards of Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali and Treasury CS Ukur Yattani to create a ring and shield the leaders from the stones.
It took the efforts of the event MC and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed to calm down the crowd before Raila Odinga and Martha Karua addressed the gathering.
Other leaders who were present at the rally were COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, Jubilee Vice-Chairman David Murathe, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, and Ugunja MP James Opiyo Wandayi.
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, condemned the incident saying violence should not be happening in Kenya at this time.
“Kenya ni yetu sisi sote tafadhalini tujiepushe na ghasia. God protect and bless Kenya,” Sonko added.
Garissa Township MP Aden Duale blamed Raila for the violence at his rally claiming he is an agent of division.
“The people are pressed and heavily weighed down by exorbitant taxation, high cost of living, reduced revenue allocation and representation through your BBI fraud and paralyzing insecurity,” Duale alleged.
