The women’s World Cup is set to kick off in less than 6 days. Countries have been well prepared for the occasion and soon the curtains will be raised at the Eden Park stadium in New Zealand.
The tournament will be held from 20th July to 20th August with 32 teams participating. This is the first time the tournament has had 32 countries an improvement from 24 countries in 2019.
This year’s Women’s World Cup is co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
United States are the most successful women’s team in the history of the women’s World Cup having won the event four times in the year 1991,1999, 2015, and recently 2019. They are a team to watch having a number of reputable players in the history of women’s football.
Onome Ebi from Nigeria is a 40-year-old defender who will be the oldest participant in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. She is set to become the first female or male African player to perform at six World Cups.
The youngest player at the 2023 Women’s World Cup is a 16-year-old South Korean by the name Casey Phair (Born on June 29, 2007). She is an American-born South Korean. Giulia Dragoni from Italy is also 16 years but slightly older than Casey Phair and made the final 23-player squad chosen by manager Milena Bertolini for the women’s World Cup.
Individual accolades for players have been the only thing that Brazil can boast about. Marta (37 years) has been the icon whenever Brazil’s women’s team comes into everybody’s mind. She has been the FIFA Player of the Year a record number of times (6 times) but she is expected to grace the World Cup event for the last time having represented Brazil in the World Cup 5 times.
Ten stadiums will host the event, 4 from New Zealand and 7 from Australia. Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand (Capacity: 48,276) will host the opening ceremony as well as the first match while Stadium Australia in Sydney, Australia (Capacity: 83,500) will host the final and the last match of the competition.
All the best to the women as they plan to bring entertainment to the world of football and support women’s sports in general. “Let the girls/women also play”.
