On Friday, April 7, 2023, Rwanda and the world marked the 29th Commemoration of the Rwandan Genocide Against the Tutsi. Within just over 100 days, thousands of Tutsis were systematically murdered.
In his speech to the world, President Paul Kagame said that the wounds from the genocide are deep but they have had the courage to move forward adding that the survivors have decided to forgive but they can’t forget.

The President warned those who tried to distort the facts of Rwanda history (Colonialists) saying although the perpetrators cannot feel ashamed Rwandese will never allow anybody else to dictate to them and how to live their life.
“Unity, being together is the foundation of everything we try to do, from the beginning we understood the need to cultivate and preserve the spirit of oneness to give us home for the better of our future,” the president added.

He also noted that the genocide denial is a dangerous and deliberate attempt to block the truth noting that there is need to fight the visionist ideology because that is how history repeats itself.
“We should find solutions within ourselves no matter how unconventional the matter maybe, we all remember at the time we needed every help the whole world turned their back on us,” he advised.

One of the most well-known modern genocides was the Rwandan Genocide, which began in 1994 and lasted just 100 days. With the downing of Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana’s plane in April 1994, which also resulted in the deaths of the presidents of Burundi and Rwanda, almost one million ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus were massacred.Tutsi, Twa, and Hutus under Belgian colonial administration experienced racialization. Genocidal violence was made possible by the rigidification of these identities and how they related to political power.

In 1990, a civil war between the military forces of the government and the rebel Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), which was commanded by Tutsi exiles in Uganda, broke out.
