Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, has left the club’s fans disappointed after asking to be allowed to leave the club.
Cristiano said he is open to a move from the club should a satisfactory offer come through in the transfer window.
Manchester United has however reiterated that Cristiano is not on sale and is under contract for one more year. According to Man U, Cristiano’s contract with them expires in the summer of 2023.
Cristiano joined The Red Devils from Juventus on a £20m transfer. He has scored 24 goals in 38 games for Manchester United. Man U failed to win a trophy for the fifth successive season, something that may be of concern to Cristiano. The club also failed to qualify for the 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League. The club finished 6th in the 2021/2021 English Premier League (EPL).
The Portugal international has never played in the Europa League, which Manchester United will be taking part in next season. He last played in the Europa League predecessor, the UEFA Cup, when he was at Sporting Lisbon in the 2002/03 season.
If Ronaldo stays at Old Trafford, the 2022/2023 season will be the first one in his career in which he will not play Champions League.
