The Kenya Power and Lightening Company (KPLC) has been marred with cases such as customer complaints on metering, bribes, favoritism, corruption scandals and even the imprisonment of its officials this eroded consumer confidence, tarnished the brand, and hindered the efficacy.
Ephraim Njega has lamented officials from the power Supply Company have been ‘sitting’ on power connection applications for even more than four years. He added that in his rural area, Kenya Power visited in 2018 and put posts and wires all the way to people’s houses.

He further elaborated that people were forced to spend a lot of money wiring their houses in readiness for power connection. More than four years later they are yet to connect the power yet everything including transformers is in place.
“What kind of impunity is this? In which country in this world can something like this happen? Imagine this is a place where people have been going to election to vote in MCAs, MPs, Governor and yet there is nobody to represent them and get Kenya Power to do its work,” he complained.
He wondered why would a company invest so much in infrastructure and blatantly refuse to monetise it. Adding that the country has an auditor general who has never bothered to find out why the company has so many pending power applications rotting on its shelves.
“You would think Kenya Power officials care about revenues. Why would they yet any shortfalls will be subsidies by Kenyans through subsidies and high power costs? There are businesses that would be employing thousands. But they can’t because Kenya Power wouldn’t connect them to the grid. Yet we are crying about unemployment in this country,” he sadly said.
He accused that the government of the day of turning out into a big disappointment. It is saying all the right things and doing nothing right. “This is how we lost the last economic decade. Five years is not eternity.”
