Being a single mother or dad is not an easy decision. One may make such a decision where the worst happens. Many tend to accept their fate and move on for the sake of their peace and stability.
This has made many people judge single mothers harshly and unfairly in the society as compared to single dads. Some even allege that children raised by single mothers are undisciplined, a notion that has sparked serious discussion on social media, many lamenting that being a single mother isn’t the end of life.
Seyi Oluleye, a social media user from Nigeria, went on his social media page to lament that some people have created a notion that single mothers are irresponsible while praising single dads. He said the double standard is not healthy for the society.
“There is an alleged norm in the society that single mothers are irresponsible, not knowing they have had a bad past while the single dads are praised and said to have been left with the child because the mom ran off. That’s a big lie. All genders both have good and bad people,” Seyi wrote.
He added that children raised by Single mothers are always loving, caring and affectionate people. Women are the most beautiful beings created by God, they should be loved, adored, cherished and respected.
“There are good and bad people all genders. Not all single mothers are irresponsible. Some of them got cheated on by irresponsible men who misused their trust. Some men also chase women out of their lives as a reason for their irresponsibility. So no gender is perfect,” he added.
Seyi advised that it is better to accept and support single mothers while they are still alive than wait for them to die because most of them have run out of abusive partners.
“Have a positive relationship with them, this will help them feel secure and loved. This will also help them and their kids cope with any changes in the family situation,” he advised.
