As many African countries still struggle with poverty, many professionals have opted to travel to European countries for greener pastures leaving their countries in a more sorry state.
Arikana Chihombori-Quao former Permanent Representative of the African Union to the United States says, the capacity that Africa needs to build the Africa that we want, to build a sustainable Africa is in the diaspora adding that the diaspora needs to come back home to help push the development and help with human capital and intellect.

“We have all the ability and capacity we need in the diaspora and on the continent. Combining both will be a potent force when we collectively work together to build the Africa of our dreams,” she said.
Arikana who is also an activist further explained that the brain drain that had occurred in Africa over the past 400 years must be reversed; there is no two ways about it.
“Some people would say the situation is bad, and beyond redemption. No situation is ever lost if we all put a concerted and deliberate effort to revive and push it. The solutions are within our grasp,” she noted.

The medical doctor insisted that Africans have all that is needed to make Africa work for us, pointing out that all that is needed now are those African professionals working in the developed countries who are ready to work for Africans not those who continue to steal and undermine the capacity of fellow Africans.
“We all talk about wanting change in Africa, we want better health care, better education, better infrastructure but no amount of money put in Africa will give us the healthcare we desire because the majority of professionals in Africa are in the diaspora,” she said.

Tina Casey agreed, but asked African leaders to make the countries desirable to come to. “I don’t mean making it like America or Europe. I suggest making it safe, United, and fair, kick out the colonizers who are corrupt and most of us will run home.”
