The ambition of achieving gender equality, which continues to be a global concern, has been undermined by the exclusion of boys.
Increased legal disputes, illiteracy rates, increased crime, and low self-esteem are all effects of the absence of the boy. As a result, there has been violence, absenteeism, and drug usage. This is the substitute strategy the boy child has used to exact revenge on society.
As a result, despite the government’s efforts to protect women’s rights, violence has also contributed to unhappy marriages, unhappy families, and gender-based violence.
Silvia Wanjihia went on her social media page to express her disappointment on how men are stereotyped hence making them more vulnerable.
“For a long time, when we discuss sexual violence, we predominantly view boys and men as perpetrators and women as victims. However, this merely stands as a damaging stereotype about male invulnerability. Boys are being victimized as much as girls,” she wrote.
Majority of Men Focus on What They Do and Not on Whether it Makes Them Happy or Sad
She added that we have built a world that makes it hard for men to come forward, and admit to the atrocities explaining that even when they do, there are no systems set in place for their healing.
She applauded the systems set in place to empower girls but appealed that the plight of boys should also be addressed.
“As wickedness continues to spread like wildfire, it’s paramount that we bring out all our arsenals to put out prayer, sensitizing the young men, and advocacy for tougher laws against perpetrators before the fire comes close to home,” she lamented.
Simplex supported her sentiments saying, “nobody is teaching the black boy child to become a better man. They teach him to be tough. I guess that’s one of the reasons why the only way he knows how to deal with emotions is by responding to violence. Our generation must do better.”
