Many African leaders have come under sharp criticism over the decisions, some of which have been deemed off-course and selfish. Kenyan scholar and lawyer Prof. PLO Lumumba says African leaders should work towards laying an excellent succession plan for future generations by having plans for the future.
“One of the adverts that I love is Johnnie Walker, born in 1862 and is still waking strong. I love it because there must have been a succession plan. There was a succession plan. That is why nearly 200 years later, they still claim they are making the same flavour as it was in 1862,” Lumumba said.
“Those of you in businesses must have a succession plan. There is no greater compensation for a founder than to create an environment where those who come after them are going to thrive in a much more robust environment,” the professor added.
Lumumba stated that those passionate about Africa should preach the gospel of a self-sustainable continent, change mindsets and push discussions on utilising the continent’s promising market.
“It is possible to convert idiots to citizens through law enforcement and constant reminders. Tribesmen and women can also be converted to devoted citizens through re-orientation,” Lumumba stated.
Lumumba insisted that every African should work towards many the African a magnet which attracts and makes Africa retain its people in the continent.
He urged Africans passionate about making the continent create to drive the change and make Africa a home of economic growth.
“How can it be that football is a multi-billion dollar industry, but it is only a multi-billion dollar industry in Europe? Why can’t we make it a multi-billion dollar industry in Africa? The continent must be able to feed itself. Can we produce rice, or do we depend on rice from Pakistan? If you can’t feed yourself, you can’t be respected. Africa must begin to trade with herself,” Lumumba added.
