Who is the most respected employee in an organization, and should there be a classification regarding respect? Who will do the cleaning in an office if a janitor and cleaners are not around?
These are some of the questions lingering in Lilian Orwah, the CEO and founder of Afro Fusion Couture, when she thinks about the low carder employees in organizations.
She says cleaners and security guards at workplaces are colleagues who should be greeted and handled the same way as senior officers.
She realized that many people in organizations tend to ignore the low cadre staff, avoiding even greeting them and also failing to treat them with respect.
Kenyans have come out to express their displeasure with how many people mistreat them, mentioning that without the subordinate team, many office operations might not go on smoothly.
Moshe Dayan lamented, “This is a very important observation but the problem is our culture. If you greet the security guy three times, you owe them a ‘soda’.”
Wayne Edu advised that whenever people in the organization send them to get you a snack or other items, let them be rewarded because this is not part of their job descriptions, adding that this act is not compulsory. Still, it is called ‘caring generously’.
“I was taught to treat janitors with respect like the CEO. Wouldn’t you also agree that your followers are just as important as you are? Brandon P.O Mara asked.
KV Rop opined that people should never undermine anyone because their job seems less important, citing that their jobs are crucial for the rest of the employees to work comfortably. They are the ones who make other employees’ day Clean and happy. They are also the reason why our workplaces are secure. They deserve our respect like any colleague.
“I love greeting them and even story-telling with them. This makes me feel good each time. Actually it’s the right thing to do,” Delight Dad J happily said.
