Sub-Saharan Africa has supported the most advanced countries’ economic stability and development. Despite having a lot of raw materials supplied in most developed countries, most people in those counties still languish in poverty.
Dr Howard Nicholas, an economist, explains that all global economic plans are designed to keep Africa exactly where it is due to its key role in supplying raw materials to developed countries.
“Africans can do it on their own, but the developed countries make it impossible because they need the raw material at a very cheap price, and this is the opposition Africa is fighting. If Africa does anything different now, the living standards of those in Asia, North America and Europe is going to fall,” Dr Nicholas explained.
Oladele Dosunmu, a Pan-Africanist, supported the economist’s statement Africa was planned to be the way it is. Making it poor to continue to exploit its resources was deliberately orchestrated through the economic policies strategically put in place to keep Africans grasping for air always, making them seek help.
“If only the policies were created based on equity, which they cannot do because we own the resources, they can’t afford to give us the advantage. Have you ever wondered why institutions like the World Trade Organization (WTO), the United Nations (UN), World Economic Forum (WEF), World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) continue to maintain the status quo?” he questioned.
As Africans, Pan Africans and those in Diaspora, there is a need to take it upon themselves to break the strangleholds. If Africans don’t do anything, those who benefit from the current status quo prefer things to be the way it is.
“For those of you who are still institutional hoodwinked into thinking you have friends, hoping you wake up and don’t get left behind. Clarion calls on all Africans who want to see a functional, vibrant and a continent that works for all Africans. We can’t continue like this,” he insisted.
