He preached about death and died after his preaching. The death of Tanzanian Anglican Bishop George Chiteto has left many people in shock. The Mpwapwa Diocese Bishop breathed his last shortly after concluding his preaching at a funeral service of his Hilda Lugendo, the wife to Mbeya Bishop Askofu Lugendo at Muheza area in Tanga.
Confirming the incident, Tanzania’s Anglican Archbishop Maimbo Mndolwa said Bishop Chiteto died of a cardiac arrest.
“He had blood pressure complications and diabetes,” Archbishop Mndolwa added.
In his summon, Bishop Chiteto said that the late Hilda Lugendo’s death was peaceful as she died while asleep.
“I said that my death should be like this. Let no sentence be changed. When you come to take me God, the door should be open and not asking that the door be opened. Sister Hilda should remind us to enter now when the door is still open, but you must be worthy to enter,” The Bishop said in his preaching shortly before his death.
Chiteto has served as the bishop of Mpwapwa Diocese for five days only. He was consecrated to take up the leadership mantle as the third bishop of the diocese on August 28, 2022.
