In African culture, sexuality is a sacred aspect among people. However, in modern society, it has been comprised as many people have started practising homosexuality, a move that has been taken with mixed reactions among Africans.
Chimee Adioha has given his testimony explaining how his aunt married another lady after her husband died. They have been blessed with three children, and life continued as usual.
“When my aunt’s husband died in 1994, she married a woman in 2005. They did all the Igbo cultural ceremonies and everyone knew in our village that she married a woman that would later give her three children. The world did not end and the land did not break into two,” Chimee said.
He asked, “Who says these related possibilities are unacceptable in our culture? How dare you say possibilities like these were abominations in the Igbo culture? A culture that you don’t know about! Please.”
However, social media users were not happy with his comments. They decided to hit back at him, saying that African culture Nigeria being included, does not accept such marriage ceremonies, some terming it demonic.
“As much as I understand (and perhaps support) the agenda you intend to push, ‘marrying a woman’ here is symbolic rather than actual. This isn’t a marriage with romantic undertones, but a systematic one. It’s not a marriage per say,” Kosi Nnebe aired his perspective on the matter.
“Women marrying women in Igboland for the purpose of sustaining posterity is an age long practice; it has absolutely nothing to do with the other thing you want to push!” Story Stragram explained.
“My mum’s elder sister did the same thing. She married a younger woman when her husband died and their only child had died earlier. This younger wife has given her four kids too. I remember I raised some funds for her to start a business because the stress became too much,” Bura Bari Nwilo Mentioned.
“My father’s second cousin (male) married a man that lost his wife. They got married in the church and did all the traditional rights. Their marriage is blessed with twin boys and they are living together till date,” Chidera Edozie Cited.
