TAI has proposed to set up a Nigerian Anka UAV manufacturing facility which will give the nation a chance to take advantage of the rising demand for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Anka UAVs are highly developed technology that can conduct long-range, long-duration flights, perform remote sensing, and gather intelligence, being very dependable and cost-effective for both military and civilian sectors.

At the Institute of Strategic Thinking (SDE) International Diplomacy School, Nigeria’s ambassador to Ankara, Smail Yusuf Abba, said Turkish Aerospace had offered to help Nigeria create an ANKA UAV factory adding that the country will be able to use the most recent breakthroughs in UAV technology to further its strategic goals with the production facility.

“There are several defense-related activities going on between Nigeria and Turkey, and Turkish Aerospace has offered to set up an ANKA drone plant,” Turkish Turdef’s question was answered by the ambassador, adding that “That will be a new milestone.”

Numerous economic advantages would flow to Nigeria from the industrial site by assisting the nation develop into a leader in the UAV industry, promote investment, and creating jobs.

Additionally, it would give Nigeria the ability to produce its own UAVs and associated technology, spurring innovation and opening up new possibilities, it will  also allow Nigeria to benefit from the potential of UAVs to lower operating costs and improve surveillance efficacy.

Nigeria and Turkey began discussions about defense cooperation in counterterrorism support as well as the purchase of different military equipment, including attack helicopters, armed drones, and other infantry systems.

In an effort to replace mostly Chinese, Russian, and Western suppliers, Turkey intends to provide Nigeria with armed attack helicopters and drones for its counterterrorism operations.

A defense pact between Nigeria and Turkey was struck in 2018 with the intention of enhancing their military cooperation. A cooperative military training program, intelligence cooperation, and defense production were all outlined in the deal. Two years later, in order to combat terrorism, the Turkish Army and its Nigerian counterpart agreed to expand their bilateral military ties.
