Should companies see employees who are building a personal brand as ‘disloyal’? Building a personal brand involves establishing oneself as a voice. It involves showcasing your strengths as a person.

Akanegbu says when one builds a personal brand; they impact the environment they work in, in so many ways.

“You bring more awareness to their core services, especially if you are working in your strength zone. Your company gets more awareness and more clients in the longer run, making it a win for both of you,” she highlighted.

She further explained that someone is able to bring a human perspective to the business adding that for many businesses, they seem so distant but by building a personal brand, one is able to make the business seem more human and personable, rather than just businesses.

The lawyer further highlighted that Google seems more than just a brand because there are actual people working there, sharing their values and experience working there.

“Equally, a healthy workplace would encourage you to build your personal brand as they know the benefits they stand to derive from employees having a personal brand. On the other hand, a toxic workplace would feel that you are being disloyal to them, especially when you build a personal brand,” she added.

She further advised people to build up a personal brand; either offline or online saying it gives one more opportunities than ever before.
