Today’s Workforce Needs Quality of Life and Not Standard of Life - Rajiv Talreja

Rajiv Talreja, an Indian business coach and entrepreneur Rajiv Talreja, has advised employers that today’s workforce needs quality of life and not standard of life.

He added that this means there is a need for quality jobs, working environments, roles, opportunities, learning and rewards. He added that if a company does not have a mechanism to tackle this there will always be problems of employees resigning and looking for other opportunities.

The business coach, who is also an author, narrated that the business world has seen three revolutions; industrial, information and Social/ digital.

“During the industrial revolution, people looked for jobs for survival. Here employees never leave their jobs even if the boss is abusive. The boss was always right and opportunities were fewer,” he explained

He further narrated about the information generation which came in with the introduction of Information Technology and brands. Here, he says, the workforce worked to get a good salary, buy cars, get good housing and take children to good schools.

“In this generation, there is no loyalty, employees have a variety of options, better quality workplaces and better pay. If the employer is not taking good care of them they easily jump from one job to the other,” he said.

Today’s workforce in the social and digital era doesn’t care about survival, they don’t care about the standard of living, and if their pay is reduced or binds them with a contract they easily resign and look for another job.

“Today’s workforce needs something else; they want quality of life, not standard of life, that one taken care of by their parents in the information generation. They need quality of workplace, job, environment, role, opportunities, learning and reward,” he explained.

He concludes by saying with a mechanism to handle all these issues a company will never grapple with the challenges of the resignation of employees; this, he adds, will save the company resources for training employees then after some years they leave for other better places.
