In a meeting with African leaders, President Ruto didn’t hold back in expressing his concerns about the ongoing Sudan crisis. He boldly stated, “We need to tell those generals to stop that nonsense.”

He added that military capacity is for fighting criminals and terrorists it is not for fighting children, women and destroying our own infrastructure. “But as it is we have no capacity to fight this nonsense in our own continent because our road, peace and security fund is funded by others.”

His assertive language reflected the urgency of the situation and Kenya’s determination to bring about a peaceful resolution.

He also called upon African nations to take greater responsibility for financing the AU budgets, particularly in matters of peace and security.

“We can’t depend on development partners for critical matters like peace and security.” His words echoed the need for self-reliance and unity among African nations, emphasizing that the continent should not solely rely on external assistance for crucial issues that impact its stability and development.

He further highlighted Kenya’s commitment to contributing its fair share to the AU budget, affirming that, “Kenya is ready to step up and increase its financial contribution to the AU. We believe that African countries must lead in funding initiatives that promote peace, security, and development within the continent.”
