A touching photo of a Kenyan teacher mending a student’s torn uniform has gone viral on social media, inspiring appreciation for the instructor’s dedication to her kids.
Madam Joyce Malit, who works at Narok County’s Siyiapei Primary School, has won the hearts of many when a photo of her repairing a student’s damaged uniform.
Show Me an Equaliser Greater Than Education
She was in class when she noticed one of her female students walking home with a ripped uniform. Malit offered to mend the ripped uniform without hesitation, removing a needle and thread from her handbag.
“I never miss a needle and thread in my purse,” Malit explained. “I always keep them with me in case of an emergency. I knew I had to aid the student when I saw her ripped uniform.”
She explained that the reason she decided to help the student was because her home was far and she couldn’t send her back home.
“Because the girl is in Grade Three and her home is quite far away, I couldn’t release her half-naked. I decided to cover her with my ‘leso’ and mend her dress,” she explained.
Many people admire her selflessness and dedication to her students. “This is what being a teacher is all about. Joyce Malit is a true heroine,” one user said.
