Different people commit to the marriage union with different motives and expectations. Some are lured by money and lavish lifestyle, some love, some companionship.

John Mason has claimed that marriage is designed to make you holy not happy adding that the divorce rate is high because people get married in ignorance of biblical truth while embracing cultural lies.

“The standard of romantic love and relationships built by mass media, cultural norms and the superficiality of social media is a lost cause centred on narcissism,” Mason said.

Preacher Ben responded to Mason saying, “Great thought. Holiness brings joy. Happiness is based on external circumstances. Joy is the internal beliefs of the soul.”

Some of his followers did not agree with that narrative saying marriage is supposed to be a representation between Christ and the church and to bring him glory. Only God himself is holy. Men aren’t righteous, even quoting Romans 3:10-12.

“My spouse makes me happy and vice-versa. Maybe try some marriage counselling? Marriage should make you happy. God created it because it was not good for man to be alone,” Wander Once stated.

“Isn’t singleness also a “gift” from the Lord to serve him, and thus become more holy? What is the difference then between being single or married if the goal of both is holiness? If marriage isn’t a milestone and an improvement upon singleness then what is the reason to be married?” PJ questioned.

Brishawn Sanders argued that marriage was created out of the Father’s response to Adam’s loneliness, not Adam’s lack of being ‘set apart. He went ahead to state that Eve didn’t make Adam ‘set apart’. She made Adam‘whole’ hence, ‘the two shall become one flesh’. He added that there is no need of trying to be overly spiritual saying it’s about happiness.

”One can definitely be happy in marriage. No dispute. However, many get married with this idea of a Greco-Roman romanticism that does not support long-lasting marriage and ultimately seeks oneself overall. There’s a reason why divorce rates are so high, this is it,” Theist Thug Life wrote.
